Tooth Decay After Action Report

Updated: Jan 5

The Tooth Fairies' Hierarchy of Desirable Calcium

The Tooth Fairies prioritize their sources of calcium with a meticulous hierarchy:

  1. Freely offered children’s teeth – The most prized and sacred offering, treasured for their purity and vitality.

  2. Children’s teeth taken – Still valuable, though slightly tainted by the lack of consent.

  3. Freely offered adult teeth – Appreciated, but secondary to a child’s offering due to diminished vitality.

  4. Adult teeth taken – Functional but far less appealing than offerings from youth.

  5. Children’s bones – A significant source of sustenance, particularly in dire circumstances.

  6. Adult bones – Acceptable but notably less potent than those of children.

  7. Calcium from natural deposits – The least desirable and impersonal substitute, though its availability allows them to avoid frequent exposure to humans.

Why the Fae Target Teeth and Bones

For the Tooth Fairies, teeth serve two critical purposes:

  • A delicacy they consume to sustain themselves, with children’s teeth being the most flavorful and potent.

  • A medium for birthing their young, with adult teeth being ideal for hosting their eggs.

The Mine Incident and Its Consequences

The Fae never give freely. Everything they offer comes at a cost—often an extraordinary one. A simple gift, such as a piece of candy, might bind the recipient to a lifetime of servitude.

The miners unknowingly breached the Fae's domain, tunneling into the nesting chambers of the tooth fairies and stealing their precious calcium deposits. The graveyard nearby had served as a sustainable source of protein and calcium for the fairies, drawn from the bones of the dead.

When the mine shut down and the town's population moved away, the cemetery was abandoned. This disrupted the fairies' ecosystem and robbed them of their vital resources. With no fresh corpses to sustain them, they turned their focus to the living. In their eyes, the teeth and bones of intruders are a debt owed for the theft of their calcium stores.

Tactical Insights for the Encounter

The Flamethrower’s Effectiveness

In the staging area at the base of the elevator, the flamethrowers were less effective due to the open space.

In the narrow exploratory shaft, the confined environment would have allowed a single flamethrower to create an impassable barrier, stopping all tooth fairies from approaching in that direction. Two flamethrowers—one covering the front and the other the rear—would have offered complete protection.

Hint: CLR Deployment

Deploying CLR (calcium-laden reagent) via an industrial fog machine could have neutralized the fairies across a wide area by rendering them flightless.

However, its corrosive properties meant that proper PPE was essential to protect the team from exposure.

Hint: Iron Dust

Iron dust, if deployed effectively, could have destroyed the fairies’ delicate lungs, making it a potent weapon.

Like CLR, it would have required the use of respirators to protect your team from the dust’s harmful effects.

The Tooth Fairy Queen

The Tooth Fairy Queen is the cornerstone of their ecosystem, managing:

Population control – Ensuring the fairies do not outgrow their resources.

Resource distribution – Regulating their workload and food consumption.

Reproduction – Laying eggs, which the workers then implant into their chosen hosts.

Her careful oversight maintains a fragile balance, keeping the fairies alive and relatively hidden from human interference.

The Battle and its Implications

The Tooth Fairy Battle was not a planned encounter but an organic consequence of your actions. It was designed to highlight the horrifying nature of these creatures and their ecosystem.

Key Notes on the Encounter:

The newborn fairies were incapable of speech, so they could not have directly alerted the adults to your presence.

However, their death screams acted as a signal, summoning the adult tooth fairies.

Had you chosen not to kill the newborns, you would have had more time to prepare for the adult fairies’ arrival.
