The crew of the Invictus gathered around to discuss the next steps in our caper. We were tasked to heist the Bleeding Edge Armor, an advanced weaponized piece of equipment, on behalf of our employers. Currently, we had false records allowing us to infiltrate Ichihara's research facility. However, we were down a crewman as N.I.K.K. was undergoing some vital upgrades. Not to mention we had a whole ship of strangers that we needed to keep in the dark. Speaking of which, Benny, approached us with an all-knowing determination to help us out. He offered us his "unique" set of skills in order to help us out as long as he got a cut of the job.
We had already a peak into the workings of the research facility. We saw their latest project, Astral Assassins, which was far deadlier than anything we could have imagined. Most of the crew wanted to destroy this technology before it got into the hands of the wrong people, which includes our employer. We could still steal the Bleeding Edge armor, filling our contract, while preventing the utter destruction of the whole of creation.
Benny and I took the lead on creating a diversion and breaking into the facility's mainframe. My goal, to find the location and plans of the Bleeding Edge Armor. While that went down, Callisto, the research base's head administrator, approached Ash and divulged that our secret identities were not so secret. She too was not all that she seemed, but we were safe from her as long as we stayed out of her way.
The rest of the crew had an audience with Sarris, the head of the entire facility. He was sitting upon what could only be described as a throne, surrounded by heavily-armed guards. He assigned each of the crew members a task for the day. Even though we were all brought planet side to work on the Bleeding Edge project, he had us chaperoning potential financial backers in the Astral Assassins project.
Ash was told to pilot everyone around, and Chantrelle was instructed to make sure the backers were having a great time. Zen noticed that Callisto was off, she was radiating a stress that was beyond what the situation called for. Dr. Lull was anxious to demonstrate the power of the Astral Assassins to the financial backers. He had two test subjects primed and ready for phase one, lobotomy. However, his medical tools were MIA and he felt the pressure to get on with the demonstration. He determined it could still be accomplished skipping phase one. The crew, minus Benny and myself, were transported to the test site along with the subjects, and finances.
At the site, Dr. Lull pulls a gun on Callisto. He is more than aware that the test subject on the medical table is her sister and what a perfect way to test whether the Astral Assassins will ignore their emotional connection to the physical plane and follow directives to destroy. Dr. Lull initiated the experiment and an image of Callisto's sister appeared while her body lay sedated on the table. Dr. Lull has his man-at-arms shoot Callisto. Tybar, in an attempt to thwart the mission, messes with tubes and buttons on the gurney. Zen pushes Melina, Callisto's sister, off the table and her apparition wavers. Dr. Lull orders his man-at-arms to kill anyone who doesn't obey him. Zen attacks and takes covers behind the gurney. Tybar takes the body of the girl, and drags the gurney, with Zen attached over to the shuttle that Ash has on standby. Chantrelle inflicts "fatigue" on Karl, the military financer, and follows Tybar to the shuttle. Tybar pushes the gurney into the lava pit, but the apperation was already attacking the man-at-arms. As everyone starts to board the shuttle they hear screaming as the man-at-arms gun goes off shooting Dr. Lull and the finacers as he drops dead to the ground. Everyone not on the crew is taken out. Tybar grabs Callisto's and Dr. Lull's bodies and brings them aboard as well. Ash thinks we can use Dr. Lull's eyeballs and finger prints back at the headquarters. Calisto, who was only unconicous awakes and panics when she learns Dr. Lull's body is also abroad. A mist begins to creep out of Dr. Lull's body. . .
Join us next time to see what happens to the scrappy crew when they face a Mist being yet again. . .
